Trips & Projects

Throughout
the academic year young people at Simmons House access:
- Anti Bullying Techniques and Strategies presented by a member of the Haringey
Education Service.
- Haringey Drugs Education Team - 3 sessions.
- The Islington Adolescent Outreach Drug Advisory Team - 6 sessions.
- The St John’s Ambulance Young Life Saver Award - 3 sessions.
- Simmons House is a member of the Royal Institution and students can access
the programme of lectures presented for schools and attend the rehearsal
of the annual Christmas Lectures.
- Simmons House students who are in Year 11
and post 16 visit the Summer Science Exhibition at the Royal Society held
each July.
- Young people can access individual visits and annual group visits to the following:
- The
British Museum, The National Maritime Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, London
Museum of Fashion, The Imperial War Museum, The Courtauld Institute, The National
Gallery, The Royal Academy, The Tate and Tate Modern, The Royal Opera House,
Royal Ballet and The Globe Theatre.
- Simmons House is a member of the National Gallery ‘Take Art Project’ . A
tutor from the Gallery visits the classroom each term and brings posters
of art on display in the Gallery. Students are asked to consider making
a response either by writing or drawing or painting. To date three
young people have prepared paintings and drawings for the Project and their
pictures have been displayed in the Gallery.
- Teachers encourage young people
with a gift for writing to enter poetry and story writing competitions or
submit work to magazines, entries have been made to:
- The Guardian Short Story Competition
- The Bridgeport Poetry Competition
- The Bloodaxe Poetry Competition
- Young Writers Magazine, Exposure and The English Magazine.
